Recruitment of staff that are suited to working in the community, and who have the right attitude toward this kind of work is very important. The manager interviews all perspective staff. All applicants fill in an application form and sign a criminal decleration, and receive a job description for the post they have applied for.

A number of checks are then done before the applicant is offered a position, these are:-

(1.) References are sought from the previous 2 employers. (2.) Proof is sought of the applicants identity. (3.) An enhanced Police check is carried out. (4.) Car insurance details are check. (5.) Proof of any qualifications and training certificates are checked, and (6.) an assessment of training needs is undertaken.

Only after the above have been carried out and the manager feels confident about the abilities of the applicant will they be allowed to shadow an experienced member of staff.

Training. Staff training is compulsory for all and is on-going. Training needs are met by in house training, professional training organisations who specialise in health and safety courses such as first aid, moving and handling, food hygeine, safe handling of medication and infection control.
